All libraries need friends to help them thrive. In fact, across America many public libraries were established through the efforts of community members who understood the value of libraries to their communities. They also understood that libraries needed community support to survive.
The Friends of the Library:
- Raise funds for library services
- Sponsor public events and provide materials for programs such as the Summer Reading Program, the Halloween Party, Paint Classes, educational programs, etc.
- Encourage gifts to the library
- Provide volunteer services to the library
- Increase awareness of the library’s vital place in the community
Your library isn’t just a collection of books. Patrons regularly check out DVDs, books, eBooks, and magazines, whether from our shelves or borrowed from other libraries in Illinois. There are also passes for patrons to check out to the Botanical Center, The Figge Museum, Niabi Zoo, and The Putnam Museum. Using the library’s wireless internet and computers, patrons fill out job applications, file taxes, check email and handle other tasks that require electronic communication.
The Friends group currently meets quarterly. Get involved by becoming a member of the Friends of the Edwards River Public Library today!
